Music Video
This was a 9 week group project to create a music video for our assigned song, which I completed at college. We were given a song ('Over it') and an artist (Lola Kastner) to work with for this project. We were also assigned specific job roles within this project.
My main role in the project was that of the Art Director, who typically responds to the director's brief creatively. An Art Director is usually in control of aspects of the production such as set design, makeup and costume. Due to circumstances, I completed the rest of the project, after the treatment, independently. This meant I also took on the roles of cinematographer, director and producer. As my work was tripled, I tried to make the rest of the project as realistic as possible so I reduced the number of actors to one and reduced the number of locations in the shoot. I also created the final edit that you can view to your left.
The final result was an aesthetically simple, heartfelt piece that met both the project brief and the requests of the artist. However, due to the limitations of shooting as a one-man-band as well as time constraints, the video could feel a bit static at points. This was audience feedback that I received, which I completely agree with and also felt during editing. If I had the opportunity to re-do this project or do something similar with a group, I would definitely ensure there were varying compositions and angles for each scene.
Animated Ident
This is was an independent project that I created as my final piece for my Visual Effects course at college. Our brief was to create an 8-10 second animated ident for a brand or company that could utilise any animation style and also include live-action aspects.
At the same time as this project, there was also an opportunity being offered by Mastercard to create a piece responding to the new Mastercard sonic and have your work shown in the ad breaks of the BRIT Awards. My teacher confirmed that we could use the ident as work to submit for the Mastercard competition. In the end, my concept was not selected, but I continued with the concept for my ident project as I really liked it and didn't see reason to change my idea. You can see the final ident in the video to your right.
I created the ident by illustrating using Procreate and animating it using Adobe After Effects. The final product is an elegant, relaxing and professional animation with attention to detail and a clear understanding of what it is advertising. I really enjoyed the process of animating and can't wait to create another animation soon!
